How to unlock your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs provide superior convenience and performance to a manual key. However, they require batteries that will eventually wear out and will need to be replaced. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, the battery could be failing and you'll have to replace it quickly.
Fortunately, there are some easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. First, locate a clear work surface to begin the process. Lay out all the tools needed. Find the battery hatch and make sure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or a similar tool to open the hatch open. Then, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook for the key-ring. Use rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.
After the battery has been removed, insert the new one into its socket. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are secured. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring section until it is loose and falls off. How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that do more than simply unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform other useful functions such as summoning or auto-parking the vehicle. First, find a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all the required items needed for this project. Place the fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, as this may cause the key fob to stop functioning properly.

When the hatch is opened and the battery is in its socket and make sure it is properly seated with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are secured in place, replace the battery cover and then put it back together the fob.
Pressing the unlock button a second time will disable the alarm and unlock the driver's side door. By pressing it a second it will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button is also useful for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer's day. If you'd like to do more than that, the keyfob can be used to turn on the ERS that will begin the climate control system of your vehicle. It will then warm or cool the vehicle to the desired temperature setting while the vehicle is parked.
How do I change the battery?
If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your vehicle the way it did in the past and it's possible that it's time to change the battery. Change the battery is easy and requires the use of a small screwdriver, flathead, or plastic pry bar tool. Locate the small slot that used to house the backup/emergency metal ignition key. Use the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the rear of the key fob. Once the fob has been opened you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Place a new battery in its place, and snap the fob back together.
Note: Some older Volvo models use different types of batteries which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, and you must be careful with the placement of the replacement.

Your key fob is equipped with a transponder that has been programmed to work with your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel an antenna reads the code and compares it with the one in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If the codes aren't compatible, your car won't start. This is an important security measure that stops your Volvo from beginning if the wrong key is used.
If you lose your keys and you lose it, you must bring it to a dealership to get it replaced and your vehicle programmed. This procedure can take up to 10 days and can cost a lot of money. You can save money by programming your computer. You can find the necessary information in the owner's manual or on the internet. First, take off the logo and non-logo covers from your key fob and lay it on a clean work surface. Find the grey button in the right side of the fob. Press it down. The cover will be opened to reveal the CR2032 3V battery.
